My group Shrimp Rocket has been based in South London for the past year - one of our members has just organised an impro jam in London Bridge for Saturday 1 March - do come along and introduce yourself! The featured group for this month's jam are also South Londoners - Hoopla Impro, based in Balham.
Hi Maria! I don't know London well, but my group in Norway was contacted by a gang called The Institute on myspace.com. Hopefully they are a bunch of nice people. Here is what they say about themselves on their myspace-site(http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&am...):
"We are the resident comedy impro group of the magnamious CANAL CAFE THEATRE, Delamere Terrace in Little Venice. We are made up of many improvisers from all over the place, we've done shows like Newsrevue, Field Study, Impro Monkeys,The Great Improv Gambit, Mixt Nutz, Shakespeare for Breakfast, Mould and Arrowsmith, Mrs Noodie and Improvaganza...
At the Canal Cafe every 1st and 3rd Wednesday of the month we perform a one hour impro show based on suggestions, fun, our ability to tell you a story and make stuff up and be funny all at the same time...
Come and play if you can!"
Hi Maria,
I've given a few workshops in London and I can tell you that it is often a very scattered and difficult environment there. BUT there are some shining lights and caring fols around. There's a good fellow running a website which I believe is called the Crunchy Frogs collective. It's sort of a clearing house for a numbe of London groups, It might give you a place to start. http://www.thecrunchyfrogcollective.com/index.php?start_from=25&...;
I THINK that's the link (otherwise a search on the search engines will do the trick) Or contact Dylan emery who set up the site and he will be helpful.
Do you know many people here? Do you know the ON YOUR FEET GROUP? Lizzie from ON YOUR FEET is a London Based improviser who took some courses at the Loose Moose where I teach. She would be a great resource for helping you out as well. Let me know if that would interest you and I will put you in touch with her. I hate to post an e-mail address without knowing if it's ok with the person first.
Dear Shawn
would love to know more about On Your Feet too. I will also contact Crunchy Frog. Thanks for your help. New to the London impro scene so all suggestions and contacts are invaluable. Thanks
