Hi everyone,
I received the following e-mail. I checked with friends in Berlin to make sure it was authentic, and it is.
I don't know what anyone can do, but if I don't pass on the information then it is certain nothing could happen.
Patti
Dear colleagues!
This is Martin Schlicht writing to you in the name of the troupe „Improtheater Berlin: The WäM“. Deniz’s and Christiane’s son (they are part of the troupe) have a three-year old son, Luka, who was diagnosed as autistic one and a half years ago. They discovered a program in the US, the Son-Rise program, which aims at providing a space of love and acceptance for the little one in which he can grow and open himself. These principles are much the same as the ones underlying improv. Therefore, fellow improv players found it easiest to work with it. And Luka develops beyond anything we might have thought possible.
Now, the next step is planned: Bringing this spirit out into the world, raising awareness and funds for both the Döhlers and to provide opportunities for other parents with autistic children. Hence we are organising the
world-wide improv festival
“Improv meets Autism”,
taking place from 14th to 22nd June, 2008.
Please read the attached letter by Deniz Döhler and see for yourself if you are inspired to be a part of it.
How can you be a part? Easy, it’s improv, so just say “YES” and you are a part!
You can
- join us in Berlin as a participant, player or workshop leader.
- start your own local festival in this spirit. Several groups all over Germany said "yes" to this, so now, we want to establish it internationally)
- simply dedicate a performance during the month of June to this cause, say (or read out) a couple of words about our cause, donate a share of the proceeds and/or encourage donations.
And you might have yet other ideas how you can help us, we are grateful for any input!
Please pass on this email to troupes that you know.
One thing that unites us all is the spirit of acceptance and joyful communication, and with this same spirit a little boy is being healed and transformed (just as much as all the volunteering adults involved, of which I am one).
Feel free to contact me or the Döhlers, and I thank you in advance for your cooperation!
Sincerely, Martin Schlicht
