Hello Everyone! If you'd like to have dinner on Thursday night, the friend I'm staying with in Amsterdam recommends the following restaurant:

Spanjer en van Twist
Leliegracht 60
1015 DJ Amsterdam

Let's meet there at 4:45 PM. It's an 8 minute walk from the conference site, so I'm assuming we can get back in time for the start of the conference at 7, but please correct me if I'm wrong. It seems to run about $22 for main courses, which is a bit more than I'd like to spend, but it seems we're getting 'finger food' at the conference, so perhaps we can split some appetizers together. My friend recommends this place for the food but also because it can seat a large group.

If you responded to my thread then I assume you'll join, but no worries if your plans change last minute. And if you didn't respond and would like to join, just show up! Looking forward to this pre-conference-gathering-that's-not-the-pre-conference! :-) bobbi

Review of restaurant below:

Spanjer & Van Twist Review

This place would almost be worth a visit for its unusual name alone, so it's doubly gratifying that the food is good, too. The interior is typical neighborhood-eetcafé style, with the day's specials chalked on a blackboard, a long table with newspapers at the front, and the kitchen visible in back. High cooking standards, however, put this place above others of its kind. The eclectic menu changes seasonally, but its range has included Thai fish curry and pandan rice; saltimbocca of trout in white-wine sauce; and artichoke mousseline with tarragon sauce and green asparagus. In fine weather, eat under the trees on an outdoor terrace beside the tranquil Leliegracht canal

Hello You all, Looking forward to see you. I'll be in Amsterdam thursday night. Think I look for you at Felix Meritis or somewhere around in the city centre. Don't want to be wandering around all by myself so I will place myself amongst a lot of people and shout out loud: "Toaster and elepant!" Please pick me up.

Oh dear, I'm getting more jealous by the minute. Exotic indonesian cocktails drunk from a clog - sounds devine!

Sadly I shall miss the fun as I can't be there until Friday morning. I'm working in the UK on Thursday, finish too late to catch a plane, so I'm taking the night ferry. Should arrive at the conference about 10.00am Friday. I'll be the slightly out-of-breath person with a wheely suitcase and rumpled clothes. Please come and find me and let me know what's been happening so far....

And here I thought of eating "delicious rice tables for 26 euro" to be a really unique experience... ;-)

Hi Everyone, I will be at the preconference and would love to join the dinner. Do I need to bring my own clogs?
