Instant Products
Three weeks till the Asia Conference! Has everyone started packing? Almost every block in Japan there will be a convenience store (little supermarkets), where daily goods could be found easily, but better have everything you need before you setting off just in case!
Japan has always been working hard to make life easier and to spare time, through creating efficient products. I won’t totally agree that making life easier and efficient is always right, but I believe that having the choices to pick from is important. These are some instant products created in Japan.
Instant carry bags ~Furoshiki~
Before Japan received influence from western culture, these wrapping cloths were very common in daily life to transport books, clothes, or other goods. Furoshiki means “bath-spread”, they were for the practice of bundling clothes at public baths during the Nara period (AD710). Modern furoshiki are made of variety of cloths, such as silk, chirimen, cotton, rayon, and nylon. They are often decorated with tradition designs. Most Japanese are used of using them for transport lunch boxes and double use as a table mat too. The plastic shopping bags have been the large part of due in Japan, but recently they have renewed interest from environmental protection. This could be a great souvenir from Japan!

Instant Noodle ~instant ramen~
Most have tried eating instant noodle (Cup Noodle) on tired nights after work or studying. Back in high school, they have always been my best partner on the day before exams when I had no time to cook. The first instant noodle was invented in Osaka Japan in 1971, a chicken flavored noodle in a waterproof container, instantly made by only hot water. According to a Japanese poll in the year 2000, instant noodle was the most important Japanese invention of a century, with Karaoke on second and Compact Discs (CD) on fifth. Approximately 85 billion servings of instant noodle are eaten every year.
