The Chain part 4: Cort Worthington interviews Raymond van Driel

1. Describe yourself in an eleven word sentence.

Fun-loving, easy-going, curious, open, connecting, positive, testing the limits. Really.

2. What's one improv principle that world leaders need to practice, and why?

Can I give three? Being open-minded, being open-minded and uhm.. ah! being open-minded ! Assuming that our world leaders don’t have that, of course.

3. What would surprise people to learn about you?

That I sometimes still feel a bit nervous before doing a new show or workshop.

4. Describe one of your most vivid improv memories.

For a large audience, singing the National Anthem while setting the first human steps on Mars, and eating special cucumbers with Martians and laughing so much with my fellow players that we had to abort the scene.

5. How has improv changed your life off-stage?

So much! For example, sometimes I seem to communicate on more “channels” than usual, for example by paying attention to non-verbal signs. Also, I really enjoy challenging people to break out of routines!

AIN member Carla Rieger writes a novel
What if the day after your father passed away, you found out that he had a secret past - as a Nazi? What if you also found out that you had immediate family members, you never knew existed, alive somewhere in Europe? Inspired by a true story – her own story, The Change Artist is a compelling suspense novel written by AIN member Carla Rieger. The book is available at www.thechangeartistbook.com, Amazon.com or Chapters.com.

Vancouver, B.C. – Carla Rieger, a well-known speaker, creativity catalyst and corporate consultant, has just announced the launch of The Change Artist, her first full-length novel. The book, which is available on Amazon.com, Chapters.com, at select bookstores throughout North America, and at www.thechangeartistbook.com , was inspired by a true and personal story of loss, deception, intrigue, drama and change.

A gripping and unpredictable adventure, The Change Artist is a compelling read that follows the story of a young woman facing dramatic emotional turmoil as she watches her life unravel in front of her. Using many of the tools that Carla teaches in her workshops, the heroine takes on the challenge of putting the world that she was once so sure of, back together again – this time using different pieces.

“I help people to embrace change and use tools of creativity and innovation in my consulting business,” explains Rieger. “While the events that took place in my own life aren’t as dramatic as those in the book—it is a work of fiction, after all—I did draw on the strategies and tools that I teach to help me not just cope, but to embrace the dramatic changes that were happening in my life. I really had to ‘walk the talk’ as I went through my own adventure of self-growth. This novel was born out of that journey, and my subsequent journey of helping others.”

The Change Artist will appeal to adult book lovers on a search for more meaning in life and wanting to be entertained in the process. Rieger deftly weaves valuable life lessons in between the lines of the dramatic and fast-paced story of acceptance, growth and hope.
