Let's start with some figures: We're getting close to 700 members at the site. At this moment, we have 689 members registrated so that's really great. Further, we have 34 local and theme groups; the Discussion Forum is going very well with more than 120 discussions; 91 videos about improv and related topics, ... And there's now a possibility to do an advanced search so you can for example look for partnerships in a certain area -

AIN Conference Tokyo 'Yes and' bridges the differences
From March 19th -22nd, 2009, the Asia conference will take place in Japan! The conference will take place in Tokyo at the Keioi University. It will a great opportunity to visit this country and you will have 4 days of fun, inspiration, networking and lots and lost of improv. Lou and Yuki are really looking forward to welcome you at their conference!
The four days of the conference - Key, Show, Ten, K-two - represent the four-step story form learned in all schools in Japan. The emotion and meaning of each is shown and match the themes for each day. Next to the improv there are several opportunities to discover some of the mysteries of Japan (fishmarket, karaoke, fashion show, ...). You will find a schedule, prices and all further details on -

The Chain part 1: Megan Redfearn interviews Yael Schy
The chain is a continuous connection between people where 2 members each interview another AIN-member. We hope to continue this chain forever ;-) Every member can choose his/her own questions.
1. Describe yourself in 16 words.
creative dancer/improviser--loves connecting people, getting them out of their heads and into their bodies!
2. Where were you when you first experienced improv?
I did a little bit of improv in high school, as a drama student, but did mostly scripted work throughout high school and college, as a theater arts major. I also did some contact improvisation (dance) in college. My next exposure to improv happened when a friend told me about the first AIN conference in San Diego in 2002. He knew that I was beginning to use dance in my work as a trainer and organization consultant. I went to the conference and was inspired to get back into improv, while also starting to use it in my work. So when I got back home, I started taking classes, and haven't stopped since. I also joined an improv performing troupe in 2005, and have been performing improv since then.
3. If you could travel to one place in the world where would it be?
Wow, there are so many places that I want to see! I would especially love to go to Brazil during Carnival time to dance the samba with the people and to Argentina to dance tango!
4. What's your favorite improv exercise?
I really love "New Choice." I love being forced, as an improviser, to throw out my safer choices and dare to take some risks in coming up with really unusual or strong lines or actions.
5. What's the best piece of advice you've received?
DO less and BE more! That applies both to improvising and to my work in facilitating group processes. I love the mantra used in "Future Search" facilitation: "Don't just do something--stand there!"
Announcement AIN Conference Portland
Of course, we'll go first to the great conference in Asia but you can already mark November 12th-15th of 2009 in your agenda because that will be the dates of the USA-AIN-conference. It will take place in Troutdale, Oregon. More details will be announced soon but you can also find some info + register at

The Chain part 2: Paul Z Jackson interviews Cort Worthington
1. Describe yourself in 16 words.
I cannot describe myself in sixteen words because constraints limit our
ability to whoops just did.
2. Where were you when you first experienced improv?
The hospital in Enumclaw, Washington. 15 seconds after birth. Couldn't
think of a damn thing to say, so just started making it up.
3. If you could travel to one place in the world where would it be?
Inner Mongolia. Always had a yearning.
4. What's your favorite improv activity?
Teaching beginners. Juicy.
5. What's the best piece of advice you ever received?
Open your Johari Window.
