June Improv Master Classes with Keith Johnstone

SPECIAL INTENSIVE - "Impro & Impro for Storytellers": This three-day intensive class is taught annually by one of the founding fathers of improvisation, Keith Johnstone. The focus of the weekend is on creating improv that is not competitive in nature, but relaxed and fun for improvisors and audiences alike. Depending on time available and the skill of the group, the Life Game may also be covered.

Dates: Friday thru Sunday, June 12-June 14, 2009
Time: 10am-4pm (there will be a break for lunch)
Location: TBA, Center City, Philadelphia, PA
Instructor: Keith Johnstone (bio)
Cost: $450 before 5/1/09, $500 afterwards

Keith Johnstone is an instructor-in-residence each year, when he teaches a weekend intensive.

He is a professor emeritus at the University of Calgary, and the founding Artistic Director of the Loose Moose Theatre. For ten years (1956 - 1966) Keith worked at England's Royal Court Theatres; at various times he was their chief play-reader, was responsible for the educational work, directed the Royal Court Theatre studio, and wrote and directed plays - eventually becoming an Associate Director of the Theatre. He then founded The Theatre Machine improvisational group in England which toured in many countries. Keith taught at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art until he left England, and has taught or given workshops at major European Theatre Schools and Universities.

He is the writer of many plays presented in North America and Europe, and has directed in several theatres internationally. Keith is the author of "Impro" (Methuen) one of the key books on improvisation and is now translated into several languages; and also has recently completed "Impro For Storytellers" (Faber and Faber), a guide to teaching improvisation and Theatresports. He also writes a newsletter which is sent to Theatresports centers internationally. Keith is the inventor of many new forms of improvisation, including Theatresports, Micetro Improv, Gorilla Theatre, and The Life Game, which, along with his techniques, are now being used world-wide.

Even though I'm from Philly, I would love to join you all, but I can not do it on a Monday or Tues. evening. If you were to pick a Saturday or Sunday, I may be able to do that.
In any case, getting together between conferences sounds good. Good luck with it. I am a new AIN member, so I haven't attended a conference yet, but hope to this coming year.

Hello NY AIN members,
I know some of you personal (from the AIN conference in Chicago). I'm a Belgian AIN-member but I would also like to announce that I'll be back in the US and also New York this time and together with a friend from Seattle we're organizing an Inspiration Boost on April 3rd and 4th - for trainers, consultants and facilitators. It will be a mix of all kind of inspiration (sharing books, sites, movies, exercises, ...). You'll find more info on http://inspirationboost.wordpress.com/ or drop me a line. I hope to meet some of you there in New York.
Belgian, inspiring wishes, Cyriel

Oops! "focusing" not "focussing." I neither sing nor cuss.

I'm new to Applied Improvisation. I've been doing improv performances for four years with a group (Full Circle Theater) and a facilitator, whose performances are Applied Improvisation. The workshops (not performances) I've led, however, have been to bring the new experience and fun of improvisation games to people who may not have done improv, or who haven't done a lot of improv. I'm now interested in focussing some workshops on the therapeutic aspect. I'm from Philly, so you all are the closest group to where I live.
