Sahil Thanks for the session. I think clearly Sharon is doing a great job with applying improv skills in your environment. One thing that Sharon said that stuck with me was about 'rebuttal' thinking ,how the first year is spent trying to get student…

Glad you like it. We had the water bottles last year as one of our last minute money saving ideas... 1 bottle from the $ store each was a lot cheaper than paying some ridiculous amount for bottled water in the breaks... This year we managed to come…

Hey if we can get people to learn some of these things I learnt at this improv class wouldn't they be better team......
More about you: (Short Bio or any other details you'd like people to know)
I first discovered the usefulness of Improv when I was on-stage in a local production of ‘The Rivals’ and my fellow actor completely forgot what he was supposed to say and do (“Goodbye” and leave).

I refined some of those skills working with the Murder We Wrote Murder Mystery group in the UK before heading west to the USA in ’99.
I did further refining work studying at the Conservatory of the Second City Training Centre, ComedySportz University and Improv Olympic training centre in Chicago.

I work as a corporate technical trainer and every time I go in front of a class full of programmers I offer thanks for my ability to ‘make it up as I go along’. I am a practitioner of Accelerated Learning methods and have a passion for quality training

I am also honored to serve in the leadership of this wondrous network. I spent a year as Board Secretary and chaired the Chicago 08 Conference

Back to 'School' - and a Stalker

As my new job settles down and I'm not traveling anything like as much as I used to I decided to take the opportunity to go back to 'school'
After hearing Mick Napier chatting at the Chicago conference I decided to get some of his style of training so I signed up for classes at The Annoyance.
I'm sitting in the classroom with the dozen or so other newbies starting to introduce ourselves when someone walks in that I recognize.
It's Joey Greene.
Anyone who has been to a conference over the last fe… Continue

New Gig....

Just wanted to reach out to a whole bunch of my pals on here and share with you all that I got a new gig in May.
I'm the training and development lead for a software company called Accero that sells HR and Payroll software.

IMPROVing Organizations still exists and who knows some day may be a vehicle for me to independantly persue the work I love. As for the moment there is a huge amount for me to to at Accero and you can be sure I'll be making a lot of it up as I go along.

Hoping to see… Continue

I'm at a conference and some people are improvising....

But it's not ours.

It's the IAL and I've just delivered a session on using Improv for teambuilding. I enjoyed sharing our message with others and they were as accepting of the strengths and transformational power of our work as we could hope for.

And then there was the party where during the band breaks I got some people to play some games for everyone.

Now I know that people are more interested in when our own conference will be and I

Alan, thanks!
I'm going to try to get there. How do I privately get a hold of the big-wigs that are running the conference? May need to do things last minute.

Hope to see you soon.
Big hug!

I LOVE this group.
As well as the ones posted here I got responses from close to a dozen people and there must have been over a hundred ideas in total.
Some of them made me laugh out loud (I got a very strange look from my co-workers!)
I am SO Looking forward to recharging my creative batteries in Portland.

Hello, Alan,

I would like to prmote Chicago as a site for the National Association of Drama Therapy for their conference. I would love to meet with you and pick your brain regarding your experience setting up a conference here for the Applied Improv Network.

Yes we met briefly at the reception. You may want to check out a new online class we are teaching "From ADDIE to Improv" it is designed to teach instructional designers and trainers an alternative way to design and delivery training programs based upon some of what I learned from Thiagi and various techniques that improv professionals use.
