Barrie Barton, community choreographer, dance educator, artistic director and dancer is devoting her life to dance and to generously inspiring and sharing it with others. For 21 years, she has taught for Buncombe County Schools as a dance educator. She inspires public school teachers as a Guest Artist at The N.C. Center for The Advancement of Teaching and offers community adult dance classes. In 2005, Ms. Barton established The Community Choreography Project, a creative method promoting the individual and their personal discoveries, with the bond of community, all lending to emotional power and expressive physicality in performance form. Her inspiring invitation to these projects makes dance available to a large pallet of ages, backgrounds, men and women, experienced or novice dancers alike.
Ms. Barton successfully produced three multi-media Dance theater performances, ‘Knock, Knock,’ in 2009, ‘Holding Us’ in 2007 and ‘Holding Love’ in 2006 . With seamless intention, Ms. Barton weaves a tapestry of music, poetry, art, scared fun and evolution into her projects
Ms Barton holds a BA in Dance from the University of California at Santa Barbara and a Masters of Arts Education from Vermont College. She trained numerous times at the American Dance Festival in Durham, N.C., in New York and Hawaii and performed with various dance companies in Honolulu, New York, Chicago, L.A and Asheville, NC. Ms. Barton is the 1985 recipient of the North Carolina Arts Council Fellowship Award for choreography. She also contributes her gift of dance to the Celebration Services at Jubilee, where arts are an integral part of the services, since 2000.

As a result of her vision and experience, Ms Barton has inspired many in the community to explore, express, and expand their artistic nature and abilities in a fun and creative format that initiates growth and community.

Excellent! All the best to you as you facilitate more improv trainings this year. This network can be a valuable resource. Please stay in touch, and hopefully we can connect next time I travel home.

Doing great! See you have been involved with Interplay! Just met Cynthia at the AIN conference and you must know Lorrie Streifel, one of my dearest friends! I don't get to Asheville very often but will definitely look you up when i do and please let me know if you are ever out this way!

How long have you taught at the school? I am starting a two week interplay intensive for 18-15 year olds. Know any talented artistic, socially conscious ones to recommend?
