Random thoughts on a airplane. While flying back from Portland as I was watching the sun set through the small airplane window my thoughts wondered. I wondered what it must be like to be a pilot? I wondered if pilots are passionate about being pil...

More about you: (Short Bio or any other details you'd like people to know)
In essence I am a connector. I am passionate about connecting people with people, people with them selves, problems with solutions, ideas with people and concepts with experiences and experiences with growth. I am an industrial psychologist and have a MCom degree in Industrial Psychology and BA degree in Communication studies.

My background in improvisation started as a clown in a children's theatre company. There after I co-founded Lagnes Improv Komedie, the world's only Afrikaans improv group. After finishing my honours degree in Industrial Psychology I lived in the USA where I performed with a youth theatre company. During my time in the USA I made a lot of connections of which the most significant one was the connection I made between improvisational theatre and industrial psychology.

The next year I started my masters research in which I studied the influence of improvisation theatre on the innovative climate in work groups. In 2005 I went to study improvisation at the IO theatre in Chicago. In 2008 I was a speaker at the Applied Improv Network's European conference where I presented the results of my research.

Recently I co founded a company called Playing Mantis: People development consultants with Petro Janse van Vuuren. Petro is passionate about the life changing power of story telling. Combining her knowledge in interactive story making and my improvisation expertise we customise people development workshops for groups and individuals.

I have conducted improvisation workshops for large companies such as British American Tobacco and Hollard Insurance, and to a small group of teenage recovering drug addicts. In the end I believe that no matter who you are, all people have the desire to connect with themselves and one another. And I am passionate about facilitating these connections.

My good friends Alieke and Lieselotte recommended that I get in touch with you. I run a company called On Your Feet www.oyf.com. We are in the research stage of a project that may bring us to Johannesburg in early July to help lead a 1,000 person conference. For this we are looking for two improvisers from SA that can join our team. The job would entail 2 days of face to face work(1 day for practice, logistics, etc and the other day for the conference) The work would be a combination of facilitation of exercises and performance of improv, it would also have some pre design, about 5-7 hours of phone an Skype) I am currently trying to get a sense of costs as well. At this point what I am looking for is to see if you would be interested in this and what a cost range might be for your involvement, we are creating budgets with the client over this weekend.

That is about all of the details I can give at this point.

Hope to hear from you

All the best

Hi Burgert,

I'm currently looking into the possibility of doing my Master's Thesis (Business administration) on improvisation. Sven Veine told me that you might be able to help with that because you did some work on improvisation in an organizational context.

What exactly did you do and do you think that there are possiblilities to do a master's thesis on the subject.

Hope to hear from you!

ps. I wrote this in English, buth the comment below suggests you speak Dutch. Since I'm Dutch (too), you can reply in either English or Dutch.

Hi Kirsten! So cool that you're here! Welcome. I haven't found a sponsor for you yet, but I will keep looking! It would have been so cool to have you visit us at the AIN-Eu Conference in Trondheim. I will write more later. Cheers, Sven
