Re: Lemons

Oooh! I LOVE your new version of the game. I'm all about game combinations.

The way I usually play it is:

At the beginning of a session, I have exactly the same number of lemons as people. The lemons are in a large bowl or basket.

As people come in, I ask them to take a lemon. Once they are all in, I ask them to take a good look at their lemon and then place it back on the bowl. Then we usually play a name game, or do some small task. Then I ask them to find their lemon. Usually, they can't. (The team you were with in Portland were unusually observant!)

Then I have them put all the lemons back, choose a lemon again, this time REALLY look at it. Place them back in the bowl. Mix em up. NOW find your lemon. Easy this time, huh?

Then I have them go into small groups, 3 or 4, and find out how other people identified their lemon. They often find that different people have different styles of noticing; some tell a story about the lemon "It's sunburned on one side", some make it a character "It's a one eyed pig", some go for texture, "It's pitted" and others for colour, "It has a hint of brown/green in the yellow"

We lead this into a discussion about different types of intelligence (Are you familiar with Howard Gardners theory of Multiple Intelligence?").

Also, I usually invite people to take their lemon home, and then mail me or the whole team to let me know what they did with it (My favourite response was from a guy who let the lemon go mouldy on his kitchen counter. He photographed it every day for 3 weeks and made a "lemon rotting video". Nice!)

Hope this helps. Would LOVE to find a way to work together some time.

x
