On April 26, 2013, I published a blog post titled “All About Improv, Applied Improv, Creativity, Play, Innovation…”, which included a link to a 16-page list of resources that I’d compiled. In my travels since then, I’ve come across lots more excellent resources. I’ve read several books and hundreds of articles, watched lots of videos, and cherry-picked what I think are the most relevant, useful and interesting ones. So here’s my gift to you: Part 2 in the series, with a link to my free, 20-page…See More

How to Sell an Applied Improv Program

Note: I'm a marketing consultant, and I led a session titled “How to Sell an Applied Improv Program” at the Applied Improvisation Network's mini-conference in Manila, The Philippines, on June 25, 2013. This isn’t a verbatim record of everything people said at the session; it’s just my notes that I prepared beforehand, plus a list of the questions/issues that participants raised at the beginning of the session. The one-hour session was a wide-ranging conversation. My definition: Marketing =…See More

Making the Case for Applied Improv: How Companies Around the World are Using Improv

“Making the Case for Applied Improv: How Companies Around the World are Using Improv” Hi folks - here are my notes from my presentation at the Applied Improvisation Network's mini-conference in Manila, The Philippines, June 25, 2013. Start with “Let’s pretend” – we’re a group of people in a company/organisation facing a crisis or planning a big event/project. Participants make suggestions, an improv player responds with “Yes, but…”, then a second round with “Yes, and…”. According to a 2010…See More

Just before I was due to lead a rehearsal by my improv troupe, I said to the group's leader: "I don't know how to do this." He replied: "New choice." So I played the game and said: "I need help to do this." Again, he said: "New choice." And I replied: "OK, here's what we're going to do." And I realised that I can play New Choice in any situation in my life to reach a more resourceful state.
