Share a favorite 'improv epiphany'
After a particularly difficult group session with kids, a 12 year old girl let out a sigh and remarked to me ,"Why do I have to spend so much of my time putting up with stupid men?" It may have been more of an epiphany for her than me but it was a very funny reminder of the intelligence and directness of children.
More about you: (Short Bio or any other details you'd like people to know)
I graduated from DePaul University’s Theater School with a BFA in Acting, and completed my Masters degree in Therapeutic and Educational Drama from Lesley College. I performed and conducted drama workshops in correctional institutions and for alternative to custody programs throughout North America, England, Scotland and Ireland with Geese Theater Company. I have also used theatre techniques to work with Chicago’s immigrant population through work at Casa Guatelmala, The International Refugee Center, and The Marjorie Kovler Center for the Treatment of Survivors of Torture. I completed training at the Psychodrama Training Institute of Chicago and interned at Columbia Lakeshore Hospital. I have been a stage actor and director for many years and I delight in performing and teaching improvisation at Chicago’s ComedySportz Theatre. I also use improv in my work as an Associate Director of Drama Therapy for The Institute for Therapy through the Arts, where I see all ages and types of clients in individual and group therapy.

Hey Keith!

Great to hear from you. That's right up our alley. I can do it for sure when I'm in town, and my producer/business partner Marc is a vet so I know he'd be all over this. Plus, another of our instructors has studied with Johnstone, done a lot of Playback and would be wholeheartedly on board. Let's start talking. Call Marc Pruter at 314-922-1998.

How do we get involved?

I'm glad to hear of your interest! I'm on sabbatical leave 2009-2010 and am not in St. Louis. More generally I don't think I'm the right person for the kind of workshops you're describing...

Nice to meet another drama therapist here. I'm a University of Florida graduate too and have many college improv friends out in Chicago. Hello. Would be interested to talking with you about your therapeutic work some time.

Hello Keith! A fellow UU improviser who lives and works in Chicago? What are the odds? You've gotta love the internet. I worked at the CSz in Indy (my hometown) for a summer and loved it. Ed, the owner there, has got to be one of the nicest men in the world. Anyhoo, I'm sure I'll see you around someday soon!
