I recall how irritated I was at drama school when they suggested we 'rehearse' the improvisation! How can that be possible? Or were they just misusing the word? Are there particular perfect conditions for 'in the moment'? Out of the city, away fr...

Reviews from Cabaret, Confidence and Communication
Testimonials
“Just a brief note to thank you for the Cabaret, Confidence and Communication workshop you ran in Brighton earlier this month. It lived up to its description and delivered everything you promised!
You inspired and motivated the group in a sensitive and entirely non-threatening way. At the beginning of the session I wouldn't have believed I'd have been comfortable performing a song, making percussion noises and acting in front of a group - yet two hours later I'd done all this.”

“I found you very energetic...helping and supporting us to do some very interesting and good work in a comparatively short period of time. You were always encouraging …You had a very easy manner about you which made it easy for us to work with you and with each other...thanks you again.”

“Nice mix of activities - enlivening and fun and a little bit of pushing my boundaries with the song bit at the end. Great the way you got us started straight away...Well done!”

Review
The most enjoyable part of this day in Brighton for me was participating in a cabaret workshop, for people to develop their creativity, confidence and communication skills led by a cabaret artist and performer Maria Trevis. In a space with 12 participants approximately 4 had been to something like this before. It proved a great opportunity for me rediscover my leadership and directorial skills when we were split into smaller groups to devise short pieces of theatre... it was so nurturing and really gave the participants the opportunity to become comfortable with the material we were working with.

By the end of the workshop all the shyness and self critique from participants had left the room mostly due to the way Maria layered elements of performance slowly on top of one another like Lego building blocks allowing the confidence in the room to build at a steady and satisfying rate…and it has given me back some of the confidence and determination to believe in myself again as a theatre practitioner.

Hi Maria
To me it makes sense to talk about the two worlds of Applied Impro - the theatre and artistic part and the corporate part. The exiting thing is that every one of us is curious and on the move from one world to the other but with an opposite starting point. Therefore, at the conference you will find people with very much knowledge of the world of business but very little knowledge of impro and the opposite (although a few have very much knowledge of both). However, for me personally I would say that we could need more people at the conference from the corporate world, because I believe in partnerships. Regards Sven
