I have been a practicing drama therapist since I started to train in 1985. Drama Therapy in as a field is so vast, depending on the cast of characters that live inside you and all the varied roles which each play and how these roles compete with each other to take precedence. Developmental Transformations (google David Read Johnson and Miller James)combines all the tools for basic improv and therapy. Start there my friend and you are sure to have fun and be very effective with your clients!

Psychodrama and role play of any kind are the traditional ways people think of drama therapy.

I started The Drama Therapy Institute several years back; you can enlist the creative side to solve any problem and build tools and techniques from things that most interest you. It is very illuminating to cast the client in a role and enlist many auxiliaries to solve his or her own problem. You can have a group of one person and have the client play all the auxiliaries, if need be.
