I have been using expressive arts (dance and improvisational theater) in organizational learning and development for the past five years. I have my own business, Dramatic Strides® Consulting, specializing in leadership development, communication skills, teambuilding and creative decision-making techniques that help people and organizations move forward together.

The Impact of Identifying "Friends" on the AIN site?

Hello to all of my AIN friends! I must admit that I am new to social networking, and in fact, this is my very first blog ever! :-)

When I received requests from several AIN folks to become their "friend" on this site after creating my profile, I felt honored, and I dutifully responded. I have also invited several people to become my "friends" on the site. Then I looked at all of the faces of our wonderful group, and I thought to myself, aren't we all "friends?" I began to wonder if rec

Good luck with the new troupe...very exciting!

Let me know when you're down here...sweet.

Hi Yael,
I enjoyed your workshop very much and I'm intersted in making presentations about improv to groups. Could you please tell me what you do when you address a service club or other group to discuss the value of improv based training. In the session you suggested that you might bring people out of the audience to demonstrate a technique. What sort of games do you find useful for this effort?

Thanks,

Yael, I really enjoyed thinking a bit more about why I liked your workshop and why I got so much out of it. The one thing that stood out for me above all else was your pacing, but until I wrote this I didn't know that, so I'm glad I gave it more thought! This is what came out of my deeper inquiry:

Yael's workshop was a great blend of experiential exercises and ample time for debriefing. I felt like she really gave us time to process through and integrate our experiences, instead of just rushing from one game to the next, or lecturing us about the games instead of letting us talk through what we learned from them ourselves. What really stood out for me in this workshop was her pacing. The games themselves felt really expansive-- I felt like I had a full experience each time, which was neither too long nor too short. In Goldilocks and the Three Bears terminology, Yael's pacing was 'just right.'

Thanks again!

Hi Yael,

I was so excited to see the Organizational Change session you'll be leading at this weekend's conference. I'm studying Learning and Organizational change at Northwestern University now. We're looking at ways to imcoporate improv as a framework for learning about changing organizations. I'm new to the field so I'd love to pick your brain about your experiences. See you this weekend!

Hi Elizabeth! It's great to hear from you! I'm so glad that you joined AIN.

Regarding next March, my one date that is set so far is that I will be attending the AIN conference in Tokyo March 19-22, so it would be good if I can come to Taipei before that.

I look forward to hearing back from you when you've had time to figure out a date.

Take care,
Yael

Hey, Yael,
I finally got the time to join this network. Thank you so much for telling me about this group and introduced me to Viv. I will see her Oct. in our Chinese Facilitator Conference and probably interpret for her during her sessions, so I get to learn about Improv! I have not forgotten the possibility of bringing you over here next March if possible, but please be patient with me in coming out with a date. Talk to you later.
