Recently, after returning from the conference, I was in a relaxed elastic state and discovered that I could create improvs with my clients in one -on- one sessions. One of my clients is a man who talks a lot and leaves little space for me to get a word in. He talks quickly and speaks with intensity about matters that don't seem that personal. So I suggested that we play a game where we alter things a bit as an experiment. We would speak only three words at a time, very slowly, with pauses in between. At first he was quite uncomfortable, almost frantic, but he persisted because he is a gritty person who takes pride in never quitting things. Then he tried to compete by contradicting everything I said. I played this game with him, then we increased the number of words but spoke slowly. He expressed things he'd never spoken before and had tears in his eyes, then admitted that he'd played the know-it-all game all his life. He was ready for something different..
More about you: (Short Bio or any other details you'd like people to know)
I taught Comunications, English , and Creative theory at two colleges before becoming a therapist, then was trained in Playback Theater and became co-founder of Salt Spring Playback Theatre. I've also worked in the jail for 12 years, offering healthy relationships workshops and anger management groups. Sharon Bronstein, my life partner, is also a therapist and co-leads groups and retreats for organizations with me. We also started up a company, Inner Odyssey, which focuses on guided retreats for people who need time off to step back and reflect on where their life is going, what results they are getting, and where they want to go next. This involves daily meditation, some bodywork (for those in need of deep release ), guided jounaling, daily consultations, and a directed inquiry process to explore the underlying principles which are revealed in the choices they've been making. We also bring in leading practiitioners in the various healing and creative arts who live in the area. ( Chi Qong, Reiki, massage, dietary consulting, homeopathy, etc ). This project seems to be attracting people and allows us to share our passion because we both integrate retreats as part of our personal lifestyle that keeps us balanced and sane.

Its so great to see your photos and profiles and to know that you are available for further connection. Since my return, I've been having lots of fun in my therapy practise, imrov-ing with my clients in their sessions. I feel very inspired to write the book about the politics of shame and fear which I've been researching. So many things happened during the conference which offered further insight into this topic, especially the session by Patti and David on diversity and the session by simon on status.
